Larry Carello

Author, Blogger, and Pilot

Larry Carello hails from the town of Sylvan Beach in central New York state. After graduation from the United States Naval Academy, he embarked on a four-decade adventure in aviation, and has flown a wide variety of military and commercial aircraft. He spent five years attached to a San Diego based H-46 helicopter squadron, during which he made two shipboard deployments to the Western Pacific.

His first book, A Golden Weekend, received first runner-up honors from the Military Writers Society of America in the category of Best Literary Novel for 2012. He followed that work with two aviation-themed stories: Rotorboys - a fast-paced novel of men, ships, and helicopters at sea; and Verbal Orders - the tale of two retired Navy pilots who track down a kidnapped American oil heiress in the Muslim-dominated southern Philippines.

Larry retired from commercial aviation in 2016 as an international captain for a major U.S. airline. He lives with his wife in Florida, and now lectures on aviation history and conducts book signings at independent bookstores nationwide.
